Monarch Award

Monarch Award

Prairie School Library Media Center is pleased to announce its participation in the Monarch Award voting for this school year!

The Monarch Award is Illinois' K-3 Readers' Choice Award. The Association of Illinois School Library Educator's established the award in 2003.  The name Monarch was chosen because of its familiarity to K-3 children and to symbolize the growth, change and freedom that becoming a reader brings. The Monarch is designed to encourage children to read critically and become familiar with children's books, authors and illustrators. The program is open to K-3 age children in Illinois. For more information, please visit the Monarch Award website.

Students may borrow these books from Prairie School Library Media Center, Orland Park Public Library or purchase a copy to keep for their own. Students must read a minimum of 5 books to participate in voting which takes place in March. We will read at least 5 together in library class so all students may vote.
